Nighttime is the Most Deadly Time on Illinois Roadways

Many commuters arrive home after the evening rush with white knuckles and tense muscles.  The crowded Chicago roadways have increased their stress levels and they can finally breathe a sigh of relief that they have arrived home safely and without being in an accident.

However, Illinois drivers should be aware that while the daily commute may be one of the most stressful driving times of the day, it is not the most deadly time to be on our state roadways.  A recent report by the Illinois Department of Transportation shows that the less crowded late night roadways are much more likely to be the scene of deadly motor vehicle accidents.  The two primary reasons for this are an increase in the number of intoxicated drivers during the late night hours and an increase in the number of vehicle occupants who do not wear seatbelts.

The report found that about one third of deadly Illinois motor vehicle accidents occur between the hours of 9 p.m. – 3 a.m. while only about a quarter of fatal motor vehicle accidents occurred during rush hour periods.

If your loved one has been the victim of a deadly motor vehicle accident then the tragedy is the same whether the accident happened at 5 p.m. or 1 a.m.  A Chicago wrongful death attorney can help you with your legal claims related to the accident and help you hold those who were responsible for the accident accountable for your family’s suffering.  Please contact an experienced Illinois personal injury attorney today for more information.
