Last May, a beautiful dream turned into a horrific nightmare.  John Henderson, a 35 year old triathlete was riding his bike along Kamehameha Highway in Hawaii last May when a tour bus struck him.  Mr. Henderson was thrown 90 feet after being hit by the bus. He suffered 28 injuries, including multiple internal injuries and a significant spinal cord injury that left him a paraplegic.

Henderson filed a lawsuit against the transportation company that operated the tour bus just days after his accident.  In less than a year since the accident, Henderson’s medical bills exceeded $700,000 and experts estimate his future medical and care expenses to be several hundred thousand dollars annually for the rest of his life.

The lawsuit settled earlier this month for an undisclosed amount of money.  Henderson remains in a wheelchair but has returned to work and is working on remaining as strong as possible.  He is also busy advocating for bicyclists rights and supporting new laws and increased education designed to make the roads safer for bicyclists in Hawaii.

You do not have to be an award winning athlete to recover damages for a spinal cord injury.  If you have suffered a spinal cord injury in an accident then please contact an Illinois spinal cord lawyer for more information about your rights and potential recovery.
