Two Motorcyclists Killed in Fatal Bridgeview Crash

A fatal motorcycle accident in southwest Bridgeview recently left two people dead, according to authorities.

The motorcycle, which was carrying 42-year-old Mark E. Hulihan and a female passenger in her forties, was struck by a vehicle at about 1:30 a.m. in Bridgeview. The woman was pronounced dead at the accident scene, and Hulihan was taken to the hospital before being pronounced dead two hours later.

Motorcyclists do not have the same protection as operators of other motor vehicles, and it can be difficult for drivers to see them unless they are being vigilant. When a crash occurs, motorcycle riders often get thrown from their bikes, resulting in serious injuries or death.

Motorcyclists should keep the following safety tips in mind:

  1. 1.      Wear protective gear. Although it’s legal in Illinois to ride without a helmet, it’s highly advisable to wear one. A helmet decreases the likelihood of traumatic brain injury and other head injuries. Also, wearing boots and a leather jacket can help prevent road rash.
  2. 2.      Take a safety course. These courses teach motorcycle riders defensive driving skills and provide tips for avoiding accidents. This is particularly helpful to new motorcyclists and passengers.
  3. 3.      Be the smarter driver. Drivers of other vehicles tend to cause motorcycle accidents. They simply don’t see the bikes, especially if they’re operating larger vehicles. Be aware of your relative invisibility. Always check before pulling out or changing lanes, leave enough space between other vehicles, and avoid distractions.

After a serious motorcycle accident, speak with a skilled personal injury attorney in Chicago right away to seek the compensation you need and deserve.
