Ex-guard at downtown federal jail pleads guilty to smuggling drugs

A former guard at the federal jail in downtown Chicago pleaded guilty Thursday to pocketing bribes in return for smuggling synthetic marijuana, at least one cellphone and cigarettes to an incarcerated Latin Kings gang leader.

Rafael Lizak admitted smuggling the contraband into the Metropolitan Correctional Center at least four times last year and was paid $1,000 each time by the gang leader’s sister.
