Illinois Dentists Accused of Medical Malpractice

Universal Press Syndicate journalist and Chicago native Georgie Anne Geyer has reportedly filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against two dentists earlier this month. Dentists, like medical doctors, nurses and others in the medical profession can be sued for malpractice when they are negligent in the care that they provide a patient and when that negligence causes harm. Illinois medical malpractice attorneys can represent plaintiffs in medical malpractice actions against dentists, doctors, psychologists, nurses and medical facilities.

Ms. Geyer’s lawsuit alleges that she went to the Chicago dental office of Dr. Jeffrey Taugner in August 2006 and that at that time she had a painful white lesion on her tongue.  Allegedly, Dr. Taugner referred her to another Illinois dentist, Dr. Daniel Chin, Jr.  Ms. Geyer alleges that Dr. Chin ordered a biopsy of the lesion and that the report came back that it was just a common skin disease.

A year later, in the fall of 2007, Ms. Geyer was still having problems and a biopsy of her tongue was done that revealed stage T3 carcinoma that had spread to her lymph nodes. Her treatment included extensive surgery to remove the cancer that has made it difficult for her to speak.

Ms. Geyser is suing both dentists for medical malpractice and seeking damages in excess of $50,000.
