Man, woman killed in murder-suicide in South Shore

A 27-year-old man fatally shot a 25-year-old woman Monday evening before turning the gun on himself in an apparent murder-suicide on the city’s South Side, Chicago police said.

The pair had argued before the shooting around 8:15 p.m. in the 7800 block of South Bennett Avenue in the South Shore neighborhood, witnesses told police.

Witnesses saw them arguing inside a white car parked on the street before the man got out and started shooting at the woman, who was in the driver’s seat, police said. The woman drove away while he was shooting, but crashed into a parked car, a police source said. The man then shot himself in the head and fell to the ground next to a tree in the strip of grass between the street and sidewalk, where he was pronounced dead, police said. Police found him there with a gun in his hand.
