Illinois Hydroxy attorneys are concerned about the recent FDA recall of this popular weight loss supplement. Hydroxycut products are dietary supplements that people take to aid in their quest to lose weight. As a dietary supplement, Hydroxycut was not required to be proven safe by the FDA prior to being available on the consumer market. However, the FDA has received reports of serious side effects associated with Hydroxycut.
Recalled Hydrox Products
On May 1, 2009 the FDA warned consumers to stop using Hydroxycut products. The Hydroxycut manufacturer, Iovate Health Sciences, agreed to recall the following Hydroxycut products from the market:
- Hydroxycut Regular Rapid Release Caplets
- Hydroxycut Caffeine-Free Rapid Release Caplets
- Hydroxycut Hardcore Liquid Capsules
- Hydroxycut Max Liquid Capsules
- Hydroxycut Regular Drink Packets
- Hydroxycut Caffeine-Free Drink Packets
- Hydroxycut Hardcore Drink Packets (Ignition Stix)
- Hydroxycut Max Drink Packets
- Hydroxycut Liquid Shots
- Hydroxycut Hardcore RTDs (Ready-to-Drink)
- Hydroxycut Max Aqua Shed
- Hydroxycut 24
- Hydroxycut Carb Control; and
- Hydroxycut Natural
All consumers were advised to stop using all of the above products immediately since there is no known safe level of consumption.
Reasons for the Hydroxycut Recall
This comprehensive Hydroxycut recall was issued due to the possibility of serious medical side effects that could result from the dietary supplement. Those medical side effects include:
- Liver failure
- Cardiovascular problems such as heart attacks
- Kidney failure; and
- Seizures.
Liver failure is one of the most common side effects from this supplement. The FDA has received 23 reports of serious liver problems and one death due to liver failure that are associated with Hydroxycut use. Symptoms of liver failure include jaundice, dark or brown urine, nausea, vomiting, changes in the appearance of bowel movements, fatigue, weakness, loss of appetite, and stomach or abdominal pain.
