Sex Abuse lawsuit against the Boy Scouts allowed to proceed to trial

The Illinois Appellate Court allowed that a former scout, who was sexually abused between 1983 and 1986 by Hacker, a convicted pedophile, could pursue his lawsuit in the Circuit Court of Cook County, even though the lawsuit was not filed until 2013. The court also stated that in a case where the Boy Scouts are alleged to have wrongfully allowed a known pedophile to serve as scoutmaster, but failed to disclose their prior knowledge of the Scoutmaster’s background, “a reasonable jury could conclude that plaintiff had no reason to know or suspect any wrongdoing on the part of the Boy Scout defendants until after the wrongdoing was revealed long after the statute had expired.
