The Troubling Toyota Recalls

It seems that every day there is a new Toyota recall in the news.   Toyota, a car maker with a reputation for making reliable vehicles, has recalled more than $5.3 million vehicles since September.  The recall includes popular models such as the Prius, Camry, Corolla, Tundra, Avalon, Tacoma, and Highlander.  Some Pontiac and Lexus models have also been affected.

The vehicles are being recalled because of the gas pedal – in some models it is getting stuck under the floor mat and in other models it is just getting stuck.  In both cases, it is causing the car or truck to accelerate at an unsafe speed.

A car or truck with a stuck accelerator that cannot stop is an extremely dangerous situation.  Serious injuries and fatalities can result, as they can in any type of car and truck accident.  However, Toyota accidents that occur because of gas pedal problems are different than other types of accidents.  Other accidents typically happen because of driver negligence.  In this case, the accident happen because of a defective product put on the road by Toyota.

If you or a loved one have been hurt by a defective Toyota, then please call an Illinois personal injury lawyer for more information about product liability and your rights to recover damages from the car maker.
