Toyota’s Not Alone: Honda Issues Recall of Almost 1 Million Vehicles

In the past few weeks we have been writing about the extensive Toyota recalls that have recently occurred.  Today, it is Honda’s turn in the spotlight.

Honda, like Toyota, is a trusted car manufacturer in America.  Yet, Honda has announced a recall of nearly 1 million vehicles for faulty airbags that have already been linked to serious injuries and at least one fatality.  The latest recall is an expansion of an already released recall in the fall of 2008 and the summer of 2009.  The airbag inflators can produce too much pressure causing airbags to rupture and sending dangerous shards toward the driver in an accident.  The airbags were manufactured in the United States by a subcontractor for Honda.

Honda also had to issue a smaller recall last month when it was discovered that the power window switch on certain models presented a fire hazard.

We all know that the possibility of getting into a serious car accident exists every time we drive.  However, we carefully purchase cars that we believe will protect us in these accidents, to the greatest extent possible.  For years, Honda and Toyota have been trusted manufacturers that were highly rated and respected for their safety features.

The recalls not only erode the safety reputation of Toyota and Honda but they also put people at unnecessary risk due to defects in the automobiles.  If you have been hurt, or a loved one has been killed, in a defective Toyota or Honda then you may have the right to compensation.  Please contact an experienced Illinois products liability attorney today for more information.
