On Sunday March 7, five people were injured in a serious accident on Chicago’s South Side. A tractor trailer that was traveling eastbound on West Cermak Road crashed into the Chicago Transit Authority bus in front of it. The impact caused the CTA bus to lose control and hit a minivan.
There were 12 people on board the CTA bus at the time of the accident. 5 of them were hurt and required immediate medical treatment at area hospitals. At least one of them was seriously hurt. The condition of the driver and any passengers in the minivan was not reported. The truck driver declined medical treatment.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation. However, it is important to note that a driver in the rear usually has the responsibility to keep a safe driving distance from the driver in front of him and to avoid a rear-end crash. Since it was the truck driver that rear ended the bus and caused the bus to hit the minivan, the truck driver is potentially liable for all of the damages incurred in the accident.
If you have been hurt in an Illinois truck accident then it is important to contact a truck accident lawyer as soon as possible to protect your legal rights and to pursue your legal claims.
